The riktålder
The riktålder governs the earliest age at which income-based ålderspension can be drawn. For the 1958–1965 cohorts it is fixed in a published table. For anyone born 1966 or later there is no fixed riktålder at all — only a prognosis, recomputed every year, that Pensionsmyndigheten itself calls non-binding. This page keeps the two apart.
Fixed for 1958–1965
The riktålder is fixed in a published table for anyone born 1958–1965 — six birth cohorts, currently all 66 or 67 years.
| Born | Riktålder |
|---|---|
| 1958 | 66 years |
| 1959 | 66 years |
| 1960 | 67 years |
| 1961 | 67 years |
| 1962 | 67 years |
| 1963 | 67 years |
| 1964 | 67 years |
| 1965 | 67 years |

1966 or later: no fixed riktålder
For anyone born 1966 or later there is no fixed riktålder in any instrument — only a prognosis that Pensionsmyndigheten recomputes every year and itself calls non-binding. This page therefore states no age figure for that cohort; doing so would present a provisional finding as settled law.

How the riktålder is computed
The riktålder is computed by adding two-thirds of the increase in remaining life expectancy at age 65 since the 1994 reference year to a base figure of 65, rounded to the nearest whole year. A computed riktålder applies from the sixth year after the year it was computed in.
Legal basis: 2 kap. 10 b-10 d §§ socialförsäkringsbalken (2010:110)
No separate penalty for an early claim
Income-based ålderspension can be claimed from as early as three years before your riktålder. Every claim date runs the same formula — balance divided by delningstal — and an earlier claim date means both a smaller balance and a higher divisor, both already built into the formula. No further percentage reduction is applied.
Legal basis: 56 kap. 3 §, 62 kap. 28-29 §§ socialförsäkringsbalken (2010:110)
